Carlos Paez Vilaró was an abstract artist from Uruguay. He directed the design and painting of this original artwork for Pluna, the latter taking place in the Varig hangars of Punta Alegre in Brazil. The reason behind this special scheme was the promotion of Punta del Este as a touristic destination, in conjunction with the airport and Hotel Conrad, where Paez Vilaró also designed murals. Financial difficulties at Pluna meant the aircraft was returned to Varig in 2002.
