Following Varig in January, TAM also commemorated the 500th anniverdary of the landing of the Portuguese in Brasil. On 22 April 1500 the fleet commanded by Pedro Álvares Cabral landed in Porto Seguro and the land was claimed for the Portuguese Empire.
