The Phoenix Express promoted the direct link between Tokyo Haneda and Osaka on one hand and the resort city of Miyazaki (Kyushu) on the other hand. The city and its surroundings offer a mild climate and a beautiful coastline wrapped in tropical paradise atmosphere. Phoenix trees (a species of palm trees) are a symbol of the city, as is the mythological phoenix bird. This livery lasted less than 2 months in April & May 2001, and was launched in cooperation with the local tourism board as part of the "Resort in Miyazaki" campaign.
