May 2007 marked the 10th anniversary of the creation of the Chongqing Municipality. The city is one of China's four direct-controlled municipalities (the other three being Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin). These special titles also celebrated Sichuan's growing operations in Chongqing; although headquartered in Sichuan's other megacity Chengdu, the airline launched a dedicated branch in Chongqing in 2004 and this aircraft was the 10th to be based there.
