It was announced in 2007 that Abu Dhabi would host a F1 Grand Prix starting 2009 and by late 2007 Etihad was the sponsor of the new race.
The first of two aircraft in a special livery to promote this yearly event was unveiled in January 2008 in the shape of this all-black A320, which premiered at the Al Ain Air Show on January 28, 2008 where it made a low-pass. This frame also took part in an aircraft vs V8 Supercar race (see here).
