Gulf Air launched twice-weekly services from Bahrain to Singapore and onwards to Sydney in November 1990. It is unclear whether the rest of the 767 fleet of nine also had the stickers (A4O-GG, GJ, GL, GM).

Lone Star One was rolled out at the Boeing factory on November 7, 1990 as part of the year-long celebrations leading up to the 20th anniversary of the airline. Southwest had begun service in 1971 and was a Texas-only carrier for most of the 1970s. The unveiling ceremony took place in Austin, and the aircraft was subsequently used a lot by the airline for PR events.
The Lone Star is the symbol of Texas. Texas flag colours are blue for loyalty, white for purity and red for bravery. In 2016 the livery was transferred to a -700 series as the -300s were being withdrawn from use. In 2024 N931WN was repainted in the standard scheme and the scheme was transferred to a -800.

The large green titles were added in partnership with the country's tourism bureau as early as April 1990. Leased aircraft (747s from KLM/Nationair, A300s from Air Liberté & LaTur) also had the special titles on top of hybrid schemes. Note the number of short-haul aircraft that wore the decals is unclear, and the DC-9 did not carry them.
