This aircraft was the second of 4 unveiled for the occasion by Shenzhen's local airline. The scheme was made of the UU smile, clouds, starfish, blooming flowers, beetles and butterflies. This all-blue scheme was a major change from Shenzhen's usual red, and it's a wink at the coastal nature of the city. Note the titles were slightly different on the two sides.

Xishuangbanna   西双版纳号

B-2669
Shenzhen Airlines (X. branch)
2008-17

Xishuangbanna is a Tai Lü autonomous prefecture in the extreme south of Yunnan. You may wonder what the link with Guangdong-based Shenzhen Airlines is... this 737 was in fact flying for the small Xishuangbanna branch of the airline, which had been launched in August 2007. This region of China is noted for its distinct culture, different to that of Han Chinese culture. The people, architecture, language are more similar to those of the Shan and Tai people from neighbouring Laos and Thailand.

The two sides were different and displayed the tropical rainforest, a Dai pagoda, Asian elephants and local Dai people during the Songkran festivities. The Dai national water-splashing elephant mascot could be seen under the cockpit windows.

Konka   康佳号

B-2669
2003-05

Shenzhen Airlines started operations in September 1993 as a subsidiary of Air China based in the Pearl River Delta and serving the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. While deeply rooted in Shenzhen, the airline has since grown to be China’s 4th biggest domestic airline and is a member of Star Alliance since 2012.

The Konka aircraft marked a milestone in Chinese Civil Aviation as it was the first true logojet in mainland China when it was unveiled in July 2003. Maggie Cheung was the first Chinese actress to won the best actress prize at the Cannes festival, and was here the ambassador promoting a mobile phone on the port side and a TV set on the starboard side. The Konka Group is headquartered in Shenzhen, hence the logical partnership.
