Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is an inter-governmental forum for 21 Pacific Rim member economies that promotes free trade throughout the Asia-Pacific region. 2018 marked the first time Papua New Guinea hosted the APEC meetings and Air Niugini added decals to three of its aircraft.

The Pacific Games (15th edition) were held in Port Moresby for the 3rd time in July 2015. More than 3,700 athletes from the 22 Pacific Games Associations took part, plus first time entrants Australia and New Zealand. Note P2-PXD was wearing the basic Air Nuigini scheme at the time as it was wearing Kokoda campaign livery a few months earlier.

Kokoda Campaign 

Commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Kokoda Campaign 1942-2012

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the 1942 Kokoda campaign during World War II. The scheme displays the 96km Kokoda trail along which Australian soldiers fought to prevent Japanese invaders from capturing Port Moresby.

Bird of Paradise

This A300 leased from TAA was the only large aircraft of Air Niugini in the mid-80s. In November 1984, it was unveiled in a distinctive livery never to be used on smaller planes. The greater bird-of-paradise is an endemic bird of New Guinea & Indonesia measuring up to 43cm long. This aircraft was nicknamed «Big Bird».
