The Spirit of Delta

N102DA had been wearing special "The Spirit of Delta" titles since its delivery in 1984 and was naturally chosen as the airframe for a retrojet livery in 2004 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of passenger service by the airline. The scheme was inspired by the 1940 livery seen on DC-3s, as can be seen on preserved Ship 41 at the Delta Flight Museum in ATL.

Salt Lake 2002

The Soaring Spirit
N864DA
2000-03

Just 6 years after the Summer Games in Atlanta, another Delta hub hosted the Olympic Games... this time Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Games. This special livery was identical on the tail on both sides of this 777 and featured speed skater champion Bonnie Blair, while luger Duncan Kennedy and nordic combined skier Ryan Heckman were each featured on one side of the fuselage.

Note these athletes were already retired by the late 90s and did not take part in the 2002 Games. The small "Delta Air Lines" titles (bottom picture) were changed for bigger "Delta" (top picture) titles in 2000, in line with the corporate identity change at that time.
