Cayman Airways celebrated 50 years in 2018. The airline started operations on August 7, 1968 as the government of the islands bought Cayman Brac Airways from LACSA (Costa Rica) which had formed the venture and was using the island as a stop between Costa Rica and Miami. The whole fleet had the decals added.

Christopher Columbus sighted the Cayman Islands on May 10, 1503 and named them Las Tortugas after the numerous sea turtles seen swimming in the surrounding waters.
