On July 15, 1947 Northwest became the first airline to begin direct service between the United States and Japan, using a Douglas DC-4 airliner. The flight then continued to Shanghai & Manila. This special scheme was made of children drawings from Asian & Pacific cities served by Northwest : Manila, Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong (port side) and Tokyo, Beijing, Seoul, Jakarta & Honolulu (starboard side).
