Two MD82 were painted in special colours to promote the 1994 Winter Olympic Games which were held in Lillehammer in Central Norway. The Games were the first to be held in a different year from the Summer Olympics, just two years after the 1992 Albertville Games. Lillehammer is one of the smallest towns to have ever hosted the event with only about 25,000 inhabitants; it is not an Alpine ski resort itsself but its large ski jumping hill hosted the opening and closing ceremonies. The event logo was composed of stylized aurora borealis (northern lights) and snow crystals. Most of the Winter sports were displayed on the fuselage. There were twelve disciplines overall and with 11 gold medals, Russia won the most events, while Norway collected the most medals (26).
