The "Rizzi Bird" was unveiled at Frankfurt on March 29, 1996. Anticipating its 40th anniversary celebrations the German holiday airline asked several contemporary artists to design a special livery for one of its 757; in the end this original artwork by American pop artist James Rizzi was chosen by Condor. A full three weeks were required to paint the special scheme, which was different on the two sides of the fuselage and also covered special artwork on part of the wings & stabilizer. Rumor has it the plane was consistently delayed because passengers were taking their time to photograph it while boarding.
